Introducing Islington’s new publicly owned power provider

Islington Labour recently launched Bunhill Heat and Power, a pioneering publicly owned power provider that will bring cheaper energy to more than 700 homes on local estates in competition to the big private utilities.

Bunhill Energy Centre is connected to a district wide heat network in Islington, which provides cheaper, greener heat to homes on several estates and buildings in the borough. The energy centre uses the heat created from producing electricity to help heat buildings and provide hot water. Unlike normal electricity production that wastes up to two thirds of the fuel used to make it, Bunhill Heat and Power uses the otherwise wasted heat to heat 700 homes, Ironmonger Row Baths and Finsbury Leisure Centre and so is more efficient, cheaper and greener.
