Our politicians should reflect the communities we represent. It is particularly important to encourage traditionally under-represented groups to stand for election including women, BAME and working class candidates.
I am chairing an event for women who are interesting in finding out more about standing or election/becoming a Councillor at Islington Town Hall. The details are as follows:
When: Thursday 29 January
Time: from 6.30pm
Where: Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, London, N1 2UD
Claire Kober, Leader of Haringey Council
Janet Burgess MBE, Deputy Leader of Islington Council
Claudia Webbe, Executive Member of the Environment, Islington Council
Fiona Twycross, London Assembly Member
Emily Thornberry, MP for Islington South and more
Chair: Alice Perry, Chief Whip, Islington Labour Group
This event is open to any women interested in attending. Please join us (and bring your friends!)
If you can’t make this event don’t worry – the Local Government Association Labour Group also runs lots of excellent events for anyone interesting in becoming a Councillor.
