London’s Tory Mayor Boris Johnson wants to ban Islington Council’s latest public information poster, which asks local residents to contribute to the Council’s budget setting process.
Transport for London are refusing to let the poster be advertised at bus stops or on public transport. TFL say the poster is too political because it highlights that by 2016 Islington Coucnil’s budget will be cut in half.
TFL and Boris Johnson are happy to take money from payday loan companies and advertise Wonga’s posters but they want to block posters promoting participation in local democracy. The public have a right to know about the scale of the cuts national government is imposing on local councils. Shame on Boris Johnson and TFL.
